Editorial & Fashion Photography in Bali

Bali has been a bucket list vacation and photoshoot spot of mine for a long time, but this trip exceeded every expectation. Before I dive into the experience, it’s important to note something many travelers don’t realize: it is illegal to do photoshoots in public areas in Bali without proper permits. Anyone planning to shoot here should be extremely cautious and avoid openly discussing shoot details with drivers, staff, or locals who are not directly involved in the production. This protects both you and the people assisting you, as unauthorized commercial photography can lead to fines or complications.

I traveled to Bali for a photography retreat hosted by two incredibly talented photographers, Irene Rudnyk and Anita Sadowska, and ended up doing six photoshoots, meeting amazing creatives, discovering new foods, and reconnecting with my artistic flow in the most inspiring tropical setting.

Whether you're a photographer looking for inspiration, a traveler planning your first Bali adventure, or someone who just wants a peek into paradise, here’s a look into my unforgettable experience.

📸 Photoshoot 1: Chasing Waterfalls at Sunrise

Our first shoot took us on a hike through Bali’s lush jungle to a waterfall.
The hike alone felt like a movie scene—misty air, soft sunlight, and the sound of rushing water growing louder as we approached.

Shooting here was pure magic.
The combination of water, mist, and rock created a dramatic backdrop that made every frame feel ethereal and otherworldly.

This shoot connected me back to nature, movement, and the thrill of shooting in an unpredictable environment—my favorite combination.

📸 Photoshoot 2: Villa Lifestyle Session

The next shoot brought us back home…sort of.
Our villa was so beautiful that it doubled as a dream lifestyle location.

Between flowing curtains, soft natural light, and a mix of tropical greenery and neutral architecture, the villa created a perfect canvas for relaxed, editorial lifestyle portraits. It felt intimate, calm, and warm—a softer contrast to the dramatic waterfall images.

📸 Photoshoot 3: Private Villa Shoot

One of my favorite parts of the trip was getting the chance to shoot separate from the retreat, again at the villa.
This gave me creative freedom to experiment with poses, composition, and concepts that were more personal to my style.

Having all that warm Bali light pour into a neutral-toned space let me create soft, golden, effortless images that feel uniquely me.

📸 Photoshoot 4: Black Sand Beach Editorial

This was one of the most memorable shoots of the trip.

Bali’s black sand beaches are unreal—bold, moody, and visually striking.
Combine that with the ocean, rock formations, and a model in a minimal black bikini, and the result was a high-fashion, editorial swimwear set that I’m obsessed with.

The contrast of skin tones, textures, and shadows made the images feel cinematic and powerful.

📸 Photoshoot 5: Villa Studio Session

To wrap up the retreat, we transitioned into a controlled studio setting inside the villa.
Clean walls, flowing fabrics, sculptural decor, and soft window light gave the final images a polished, high-end editorial vibe.

It was the perfect way to end the photography portion of the trip—calm, focused, and creatively fulfilling.

☕ Bali Food & Café Highlights

Beyond the photoshoots, one of the best parts of Bali was the FOOD.
I tried so many places, and here are my top recommendations if you're planning a trip:

✨ 9/11 Concept Café

A visually stunning café with unique drinks and desserts.
Perfect for creatives, digital nomads, or anyone who appreciates a beautifully designed space.

✨ PonDaNu

One of my favorite restaurants I visited in Bali.
The flavors were so thoughtful and balanced—every dish felt intentional.
If you love bold, modern food with artistic plating, this is a must-try.

✨ Kaba Kaba Social

Such a cozy and beautiful coffee shop.
I had breakfast here and it was both delicious and relaxing—exactly what you want in Bali.

✨ Pepito Market

Pepito is everywhere, and honestly? A lifesaver.
Whether you need:

  • Snacks

  • Fresh fruit

  • Drinks

  • Ingredients to cook at your villa

Pepito has you covered. It became my go-to stop for quick bites and essentials.

✨ Casa Batu Mejan

If you want a fancy, elevated dining experience, Casa Batu Mejan is it.
The food is incredible, the presentation is stunning, and the atmosphere feels expensive but warm. A perfect place for a special night out.

✨ Bean Café

Bean Café served me the best coconut latte I have ever had in my life.
Truly unforgettable.

Their breakfast options were also insanely good—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared.

✨ Wagyu Beef Tartare for the First Time

I tried Wagyu beef tartare for the first time in Bali, and oh my gosh—it was phenomenal.
Creamy, rich, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth. A highlight of the entire food experience.

🌺 Final Thoughts

This trip was more than just a photography retreat—it was a chance to reset, rediscover my artistic spark, and fall in love with new flavors, new locations, and new creative challenges.

From waterfalls to black sand beaches, from cozy cafés to luxury dining…
Bali gave me memories and images I’ll carry with me forever.

If you ever get the chance—go.
Your creativity (and your taste buds) will thank you.
